All things that you ADD to your hair can cause damage. All things you add plus, depending on where you live, the environment builds up on your hair. Where I live the environment is NOT a problem, the air is free of smog, etc. That is why I do NOT use mousses, gels, spritzes, hair sprays, etc. I use conditioner ONLY as needed which is not very often. I have very oily hair, so all I use is Pantene Clarifying shampoo. Once in a while I'll use Pantene Expressions conditioner (nutmeg to chocolate brown).

of course, depending on how much you use, what type, and the texture of your hair depend on how much it will damage it.

im not really sure if it can, but i do know, if used to often and not completely washed out for awhile, it can cause dry scalp....
