For guys, I would suggest something along the lines of hair puddy. For example, Garnier Fiber Gum Putty. It works really well. You only need a little bit to get what you want.

Try a hair wax. I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Styling Wax, it is a bit sticky though.
