Only in the most extreme cases. I had a friend that would jell his hair into spikes and wear a hair net when he slept so he could keep it in for days at a time. After a few weeks of continuous spikes his hair started to fall out so he had to stop. If you use hair jell correctly you will be just fine.

well my ex-boyfriend uses it everyday and now my current boyfriend uses it everyday they are both around age 40. They both still have a lot of hair. If they started losing any I'd say age not gel.

. Thinning is something that occurs from the follicle. If the gel is being left in or more than a day %26amp; not properly rinsed then after a few months of sleeping ( especially with cotton pillowcases that create crazy friction) like this can cause breakage because of the high alcohol content in gels. But breakage occurs outside the folllicle %26amp; can be controled unlike shedding hair that will eventually thin out and grow back very fine is not gonna happen. The scalp is quite resistant %26amp; while alcohol is drying to the follicle it's the overproduction of oils that cause most types of hair loss. Best bet is to mix gel %26amp; non-alcololic gel together ( to cut down on the alcohol percentage) to get a decent hold, %26amp; wash your hair daily even if you don't shampoo.
