any tips for decreasing hair volume? Too big and curly, good products or gel?

I have thick, kinky hair and I've spent most of my life trying to fight my texture and fight the thickness of it. My best advice for you is to try and find styles that will work with your hair instead of against it. First you have to discover the right products to enhance your curls (curls are awesome) and make em happy. And then it's just a matter of discovering styles and hair accessories that will make your hair even better. (although, I bet it's pretty cool right now)
If you're really just fed up with the volume and curls you can always discuss options with a hair dresser (such as relaxers, heat straightening, strong hold gels, etc). Professionals can analyze your hair texture and porosity and tell you what's best for your hair type.
best of luck :)

There's a GREAT new shampoo out there that's pretty cheap. I use it, and it tames the frizz almost completely. SunSilk Frizz-ease, shampoo, conditioner, and 24/7 creme. They work really well together, and if the shampoo and conditioner don't completely tame the frizz, a little of the creme will do the job. They have other formulas, too, so just try them until you find one that works for you. CVS Pharmacy has sample kits of the different kinds. Also, working some lotion into your hands and then rubbing the residue into your hair will help to weigh it down so that it's not so big.

I know just what you mean! I have curly hair down to my lower back and if I don't treat it well, I can look like a brown-haired, fluffy, Q-Tip!
I have tried some of the most expensive stuff out there and here's what works for me:
Hydrating or conditioning shampoos- they add a little weight to your hair and making it feel more"flat"
For styling, if you want a wet look, try a gel of some sort.
For natural looking curly/ wavy tendrils- use a mouse. I have tried expensive ones and the best one that seem to work for me are Pantene Curl Defining Mouse.
Deep condition every so often with Biolage conditioning balm.

There's a product called FRIZZ EASE, you can buy at any drug store, target, walmart or drug store in the hair shampoo/condition/hairspair area. I hear it works wonders on too curly hair. My mom had permed her hair one day and it looked like a scrunched poodle, she was frantic. I went out and got her a bottle, she said it relaxed her hair and even gave it an inch in length.

Try getting it cut in layers. Having curly hair all one length can make it look like a giant triangle. Trust me I have the (childhood) pictures to prove it....but as far as straightening it, I'd say to see a stylist. They can tell you the best care for your hair.
