As far as hair gel, the best I have ever used is Nexxus Exxtra Gel. I've used many different gels over my life and this one is the best because:

1) Holds the longest

2) Does NOT turn flaky, (ie. you won't get that dandruff look)

3) A little goes a long way.

I would suggest using the gel first and then using some good hairspray afterwards if you want your hair to stay put for a long time.

Yes, the Nexxus gel washes out just fine. Just hit the hairstyle with some strong hair spray after you put the spikes in with the gel.

old school punks would use elmers glue or the like. it'll keep it up for quite some time. you might have troubles sleeping till you get used to it, though.

hey i have really dry hair, i think its hereditary. I'm asian, and you know how asian guys have either silky hair or really dry hair that most asians just gel to spikes or whatever. I used hairspray for about 2 years, but now i want to make my hair long and i just wanna know is there any way to help my hair. I shampoo everyday, eat healthy ...... what shampoos are recomended?

use any shampoo thats mild and mosturising since u wash ur hair everyday. daily wash will strip ur hair of its natural oil so it has to b replaced. try hello hydration by herbal essences its really good.

hair wax is ok but like any other hair product it has to b washed off at the end of the day. dont let it build up in ur hair, it'll cause dandruff and other scalp problems

You can buy a shampoo that's specifically for dry, permed or color treated hair. It should have an oily feel to it even while shampooing it in. (Something like a Pantene does that.) There are leave-in treatments for dry hair like Infusium and the little packets or little bottles you can find that are heated up and then put in your hair.

In my opinion the best remedies are good old household products. Get some mayo and a plastic bag (to keep it from going all over the place) and a hair dryer; put it all over your hair, put the bag on it and use the hair dryer to heat it up. It sounds crazy but it is one of the best and most affordable conditioners you will find. Your hair will feel real silky fine and soft after doing this.

Don't hesitate to wash you hair when done (your really washing your scalp and getting rid of the excess oil). This(oily conditioner) can dry your scalp so be prepared. A good rinse with vinegar will clear up the dandruff. But use just enough to rinse your scalp, not rinse all your hair. A mist spray bottle will do nicely, mostly for the back at the base of your neck and behind your ears.

Whatever you do, don't expect everything to change overnight. If you get good results from whatever you do you'll have to keep doing it over and over to keep your hair moisturized. There are those treatments that are good once a week or once every couple of weeks, but you have to keep going back and doing it again or it goes right back to being dry.

I have long baby fine hair and a good conditioner is vital to keep it from getting brittle and just constantly thinning. You can look for products for fine hair, too. They often have something called panthenol and B vitamins in them.
